Hello 'muggers Faces has never worked for me. It just span endlessly without result for a long, long time, through pref resets, Library rebuilds and OS rebuilds.
I have never wanted the feature anyway and Apple does not want it to be 'disablable'. The only faces to ever appear on the 'board' were identified through Facebook, annoying to say the least. I have trawled the net to find a solution and none have worked or I considered them too cavalier to apply. Eventually I just tried to ignore it. This never lasts for me. So today another forum trawl but this time a new tip and it wasn't 'hacky'. I went to Faeces, selected all the face thumbnails there and deleted them. The scan ceased. It had *never* ceased before. Hoorah! I restarted iPhoto because it still seemed too good to be true and lo, two new faces appeared. The scan did not hang again though. I nuked them anyway, restarted and all is still quiet. Of course I had a current backup before attempting any of the above. No need for me to have another calming chamomile tea, I can has coffee!
