I received a notification on my iPad that if I wanted to sync my new purchases without having to connect to a computer I could turn on Automatic Download. Clicking on the notification took me directly to the screen to turn on automatic download of Apps and Books -- very smooth. If you would like to turn on Automatic Downloads it is under Settings => Store You need to be logged in with an Apple ID.
