I apologise for any offence, it was not intended as a slight. However, someone
pays for the server or the ISP fee for the access to the Internet that is a
necessary cost of making discussion between WAMUG members available to all.
Each of us makes a decision from time to time whether to spend money on A or B,
whether to buy brand X or go without. And each of us decides, consciously or
otherwise, to put the time and effort that is necessary to keep something like
WAMUG going.

All the committee did was decide that the cost of providing a service which
enables users to post a question seeking advice, or to give advice, or indeed
to post at all, could be recovered in part or in whole by setting a fee for
membership.

It is important to note that anyone, whether a member of WAMUG or not, can read
whatever is posted and thus accumulate knowledge, free of charge. This is a
privilege, not a right, and any complaint is unwarranted. I am not saying that
whom ever it was who posted a message to the effect that they could not afford
to pay $30 a year was complaining - I cannot remember what was written - and I
am not a committee member, nor have I been.

Michael Hawkins.
