Mas Satriyo, Gay Rights = hak-haknya kaum gay, seperti yang dikatakan oleh Ellison adalah terjaminnya rasa aman (terhindar dari dipukuli, dibunuh) dan tidak didiskriminasi (dalam pekerjaan). Dalam pidatonya dia menegaskan dia akan berusaha untuk mencegah perubahan Konstitusi yang akan melarang pernikahan sejenis. Bukankah maksudnya demikian, bahwa kaum gay juga setara dengan kelompok lainnya? Bahwasanya ada kelompok yang berpendapat bahwa mereka berdosa, maka biarlah Tuhan menjadi Hakim bagi mereka, sebagaimana Dia menjadi Hakim bagi kita semua.

Jelas bahwa posisi Ellison adalah wakil rakyat yang bekerja untuk segala kelompok yang dia wakili di daerah Minnesota, bukan sekedar wakil kalangan muslim, khususnya muslim anti-gay, dan posisinya tidak berubah antara sebelum terpilih dan setelah terpilih.
