PRESS RELEASE The Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt has the honor to announce that Mr. Bahaa Taher, the famous Egyptian writer will be arriving in Jakarta on 10th of October 2008 and will be staying for two days before leaving to Bali to participate in the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival.
On this occasion, the Embassy is willing to host a brief meeting with Mr. Taher, where the literature prominent figures from both sides meet together in a sort of cultural interaction as we believe that the dialogue between intellectuals, writers and creators will enhance and foster the bonds between our two nations who actually share similar values and posses deep cultural traditions. The Embassy would appreciate if you could attend this meeting which will be held in the premises of the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt at 68 Teuku Umar, on Saturday, 11 October 2008, at 01.00 pm. Mr. Bahaa Taher is an Egyptian novelist who writes in Arabic and he is the winner of the inaugural International Prize for Arabic Fiction, awarded in 2008. He was born in Cairo in 1935 and graduated in literature from the University of Cairo. He traveled widely in Africa and Asia, and during the 1980s and 1990s, he lived in Switzerland, where he worked with the United Nations. Afterwards he returned to Egypt, where he still lives today. He has been awarded many prizes during his career from which are: - 1998 State Award of Merit in Literature, which is Egypt’s highest literary award. - 2000 Italian Giuseppe Acerbi Prize for Aunt Safiyya and the Monastery. - 2008 International Prize for Arabic Fiction. ___________________________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
