I asked James Best about this when he appeared locally to display his paintings. He said he most definitely did not play the guitar and joked about how much sound "Jim" got out of that ecoustic guitar....
It was sort of nice - everyone was asking him about being Roscoe on the Dukes of Hazard, but I told him I remembered him as Jim Lindsey and he seemed to appreciate it. BTW, I got one of his autographed paintings and its great!
