>>>How many shows did Goober and Gomer appear in together? I can only think >>>of one right now-with the fun girls. Any others?
That's the only one. The character of Goober was added to the show to replace Gomer, who was about to leave for the United States Marine Corpse. Gomer himself was a replacement character; he had been added to the cast about two years earlier to replace Floyd, who was written out when Howard McNear suffered a stroke (of course, Floyd later returned -- but I digress). >From a writing standpoint, there wasn't really a reason to have both Gomer and Goober together any more than just that once, since both characters served pretty much the same purpose -- a rather dimwitted guy who looked up to Barney as sort of a hero-figure, while at the same time getting under Andy's skin. In a Gomer Pyle - USMC episode, Goober visited Gomer at the marine base, and of course years later, they appeared together in Return to Mayberry. Jim Nabors and George Lindsey also worked together in 1984's Cannonball Run II (one of those silly car race movies), a film in which Don Knotts also played a bit part. --Paul Mulik _______________________________________________ WBMUTBB mailing list [email protected] http://wbmutbb.com/mailman/listinfo/wbmutbb_wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
