Hey Paul----when I first started making miniature replicas of the buildings
in Mayberry, (you can see two of them at _www.mayberrybuildings.com_
(http://www.mayberrybuildings.com) ), I noticed quickly that you can't pay too
much
attention to the set exteriors and interiors. They don't match up. If you look
face on at the court house front, you will see that the building ends just
past the left window. There is no room for the cells. They would be right
where
Floyd's Barbershop sits. For the same reason, there could be no alley
outside cell #2 and no window for that cell. The window to Otis's cell
actually
faces the back of the building. And Andy's house has a similar problem. Face
on,
the house ends just left of the front door. No room for the staircase that
leads upstairs, and little room for Barney's "hanging" closet. Go in the front
door and the fireplace wall is directly across the living room facing you.
the dining area is to your right, and the kitchen is to the front of the
dining area. That means the kitchen window over the stove would be those high
windows you see on the right side of the front porch. And the back door
actually
would exit to the side of the house at the driveway! This got fixed in the
color episodes when they moved the back door and stretched the kitchen set
somewhat. And every house in town is across the street from the church (there
was
only one full residential street at the Back 40 Mayberry set). I learned to
just ignore all this when watching the show. After all, the joy is in the
illusion these folks created when they gave us Mayberry, which is really a
magic
place locked in time.
