I recommend everyone read it again. What Ken was talking about is what we all come to this site for. A little peace and quiet and maybe a little reflection. Hard to come by. I spoke at a police chaplains conference in Cannon Beach Oregon a few years ago and when I went into the room there was no t.v., radio or newspaper. I spent three days there and didn't hear one word about what was going on in the world, it was so peaceful. I walked down the snow covered streets looking for a store to buy some bread and balogne since there was a snow storm in the area and no food had been able to get in to the conference center. I found a little market and bought my food. I gave the guy a twenty. No bells and whistles on the register or was a membership in the food club card asked for, the man just reached up, punced in the amount I owed, cranked the handle on the side of the register and out came the cash drawer. I spent three days in that paradise called Cannon Beach and I haven't been as peacefull since. Thanks for reminding me of that wonderful place, Ken. You keep writin in, I'll keep readin'. I do agree, that would've cost Ben Woods a lot of votes, especially in a place like Mayberry, and hearing your neighbor trash-talked would be a sure fire way to gather sympathy for him.? Then again Barney could run a pretty rough campaign himself. ("76 documented cases of malfeasance!") > > As to Howard, Gomer and Goober not getting married, I think the writers wanted to keep the plot as simple as possible by limiting characters, much as I would've loved to have seen an updated Lou Ann Poovey or Flora.? I would think we might have met Gomer's and Goober's wives had they followed through with their discussion of making a second Mayberry movie with a Christmas theme.? (My understanding is NBC wanted one but Griffith reportedly wanted to concentrate on "Matlock" at that point.)? I think they did refer to Howard still dating around, though, didn't they? > > And yes, write-in elections are tough, and I have to wonder if the Mayberry newspaper was a daily or a weekly?? Because that would have a large sway over Andy's chances to advertise, etc.? On the other hand there was a TV station that apparently sent crews to Mayberry and presumably covered the area.? So a sudden write-in candidacy might have been news, or Andy might've advertised on their TV station.? > > Dixon > > > > > ------------------------------ > > Message: 3 > Date: Wed, 29 Oct 2008 12:42:21 -0400 > From: david browning <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: Longing for Mayberry > To: <wbmutbb@wbmutbb.com> > Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" > > > Ken Anderson wrote: Oh how I yearn for the peace and quiet of our beloved Mayberry, on October 28. I think it's because it counteracts the noise and stress that I am subjected to all day. I recently heard a song called "If the World Had A Front Porch"? which captures this sentiment well.
