In regard to the question about Tropical Worsted and Whip Lash Cord: Tropical Worsted is a light weave wool fabric. I can't find Whip Lash Cord, but I would believe it is probably a reference to Whipcord, a fabric used to make durable outdoors clothes (appropriate for a deputy). Whipcord can be made from worsted (wool) or cotton.
