Dud tells Mr. Darling that he went looking for Ernest T., but talked to his cousin (whom we never see) because he couldn't find him. This cousin could have written the note that accompanied the rock. There's no proof that Ernest T. wrote the note himself.
Floyd's is definitely open on Mondays. Barney is in the habit of getting his hair cut every third Monday. Many years ago, a Mayberry Days trivia question was "when does Barney usually get his hair cut?" and the answer given was "the third. Monday of every month." WRONG! Every third Monday is not the same thing as the third Monday of every month. Now, regarding a color episode being shown in black and white. Stations have been known to do this for decades, because they have long known that the black and white episodes are more popular, and that some viewers will immediately change channels the instant they see a color episode of TAGS. We used to have a member here (Craig N., I think his name was) who was an employee of WGN in Chicago, and he confirmed this.
