You mean the <br> tag, right? There's always going to be a single line break as far as I know, but for XHTML (which is the new standard) you type it as <br />. One of the big things about XHTML is closing your tags, no lazy coding. <p> better be closed with </p> etc, but with tags like <br> <hr> and such, there is no closing tag to be enforced, so those unclosed tags get the change of having the space and a slash. <br /> <hr />, and so on.
