I am always surprised at the visual quality on screen of so little file information. As Eddie points out, with the Save for Web choice on the File menu you have a wide set of choices to play with (probably more with PS 7 than 5.5) and about the same with Image Ready.
In the end I find file size (download time) is the bigger factor than quality; and it can even be that different pictures need different formats. Sophisticated as the machines and progams are they are still logical idiots. If you want that quality in print or through computer printer you are into a whole other ballgame, of course.
