Hi all... Got the issue fixed now - turns out that there is an issue in Flash where the Player gets confused as to which movie you are referencing when you create a new sound object and do stuff with it.
So a note for the future: if you're doing anything like I described, add "this" as a parameter of the new sound object thus: objSound = new Sound(this); that way any operations on the object variable will keep all references inside that specific movie preventing confusion.
