I get quite a few of these every week - from PayPal, eBay, CitiBank,
SunBank, USBank, etc. Needless to say, I don't even have accounts
at most of the banks, and I get these messages at email addys not
even registered with those I *do* have accounts with.

When I get those claiming to be from PayPal or eBay, I immediately
forward the entire message with full headers to either
[EMAIL PROTECTED] or to [EMAIL PROTECTED] - whichever is appropriate
to the message. In each and every case, I have received a reply
thanking me and stating that the messages were, in actuality,
fraudulent and the email would be used in their investigations.

My motive in doing so is to, 1.) get the fraudulent
websites shut down as soon as possible (saving some clueless
users from losing their bank accounts) and 2.) possibly bring some
of the crooks to justice.

paypal did announce a change in their policy recently to improve 'security, the details of which

you know the rule: do not click a link etc............

I vaguely remember that their changes were designed to counteract this sort of thing...but of course
they will be on their official website and not in an email.

Financial intermediaries DO NOT send email about account information unless it is secure web mail
ON their official web site which you can only access through the usual [ secure ] log in
procedures.......
