This is a long time well-known issue with IE browsers. Check here

or here

or just Google on "ie whitespace bug" and you'll find about a half-dozen or so ways to effectively deal with it.

Cheers,
Scott

Subject: [wdvltalk] List styling problem

Hi List

Having a bit of a problem with IE6/Win adding extra whitespace to a set of lists.

http://www.themmen.co.uk/newsite/ is the page.

I've made the font size ridiculously small intentionally to illustrate the problem I'm having. At this point I have not applied any margin or padding to any <li> items, but look at the page in IE and you'll see all the extra white space added to the right-hand panel sets of lists. However the lists in the main left-hand panel behave how I want them to (i.e. bunched up at this stage).

Look at the page in Firefox however and you'll see things render properly (of course).

The XHTML markup is semantically identical - <ul> nested inside a <div> - except for the differing IDs of the <div>s. Even the CSS is pretty much the same for the <ul> and <li> items.

Here's the two CSS files used:
http://www.themmen.co.uk/newsite/lib/css/screen.css (loaded first, contains the CSS for the entire site)
http://www.themmen.co.uk/newsite/lib/css/front.css (loaded second, contains the CSS specifics for this page)

Anybody got an ideas? Incidentally I would like to know what else breaks in various browsers (I'll be after a proper test later on however so unless the whole thing goes nutso I'm not too fussed at this stage).

Thanks all

MOU
