Add this to it:
'Wilkerson doesn't think the lack of photo sharing capabilities will hurt
the sales of their digital cameras. "We've hidden the protection so the
consumers won't notice it when they buy it, and our draconian return policy
will prevent any returns. Problem solved."'
Something tells me Sony will face a difficult couple of years as sales fall
due to this. Another attempt to make copyright law bypassing legislation
(see lots on Google).
I dipped my toe into arguing over copyright elsewhere on the net; I
conclude it is due for a philosophic rethink (unlikely) and that the
internationalisation is going to result in countless 'patches'. Makes it
more important that all ad hoc rewritings be stamped on as hard as possible,
whether the intentions are good or not.
14 pages of agreement - wow! - it's shorter from the old chap with horns.
I note the alternative of retaking the picture with another camera, but
surely the easy way is to run the pic through a photo program (plenty good
free ones).
Still, I doubt if the Sony system is so good that it counters the 'yawhol
mein fuehrer' approach. Sounds like the Edsel.

The system which also makes it difficult to print out pictures has
prompted
complaints from consumers. "I tried to send a picture of my daughter to
her
Uncle Tim, but this window popped up saying it was blocked. I decided to
print it out and mail it to him. There was a 14-page license agreement
that
printed out first that I had to fill out and fax to Sony so they could
send
me an authorization code to print out the picture."
