Tris,
Images are an inline object like text, therefore space has been alloted
for descenders like the tail of a lowercase "y". It is this space "below
the line" that's causing your table to break. I would use a background
image in place of the inline image, or change the image display property
to "block". Either of those solutions should cure the problem.
