I am encountering something similar with pyfacebook, we are basically
dealing with forking woes. Simplejson looks like a well-maintained
package, I think the clean solution would be for them to incorporate
our changes but realistically that may not be feasible.

So upgrading, patching and changing the namespace of the w2p
simplejson seems like the next best solution except for the
compatibility issues it would raise. I got around the issue at w2p
startup but it is hardly an elegant solution. This may require some
more thought.

On a sidenote, pyfacebook has a leadership void and we could probably
get somewhere
