Mind that this is not the end of the story. The simplejson that ships with web2py was modified to handle date/datetime/time. By replacing with the latest official simplejson you will may not be able to serialize DAL records.
One option is to include latest web2py in web2py and re-apply the patch. we will do so in 1.77.x but it would be useful to get to the bottom of why this problem arose in the first place.
