+1 for moving on, 2.4 is past its 'sell-by' date.
However, I don't think a 'simple recipe' will help much. There would be a variety of recipes required and most users with shared hosting will not be able to implement them. On the other hand, users who are experienced enough to host their own would not need a recipe for a simple upgrade.
