I use shared hosts, but I always choose a host that allows SSH
access.  Then, I build my own Python (usually 2.6) in ~/local/bin (I
follow the HostMonster guide at web2pyslices) so the fact that 2.4 is
usually provided as the system Python doesn't bother me at all.
