I was looking at something that would potentially be big, although it would be more of an addon rather than replacement. Integrating qooxdoo to make RIA applications rather than the traditional HTML + AJAX applications. I think we could do something like this, without breaking backwards compatibility (because it would be an option, just like using SQLFORM is optional). It would take a lot of work, but it would be big, and one of the few Python frameworks that could do RIA's out of the box.
