Well, I'd really like to use pydev, but I just find that it's too resource intensive. I do a lot of work on a souped up netbook and eclipse *really* churns. PyCharm is a Java application too, but it positively sings beside eclipse. I'm generally really committed to open source (I eat sleep and breathe Ubuntu) but in this case I've had to compromise because of my needs.
