While I share many of your concerns, I think it's worth doing
GlobalScript as an experiment in WebKit if we think there are
lessons that will be learned from the implementation. In general I
think innovation in the engine should be encouraged. The bar for
such experimentation should be low. The bar for enabling those
experiments in shipping products, however, should be high.
If the goal of the Chrome team is to provide an experimental
implementation that will be used only in development builds to
collect feedback on the feature, then it seems like a worthwhile
goal to experiment. If the goal of the Chrome team is to actually
just ship the feature, then it isn't really an experiment at all,
and it's right for people to be concerned.
I agree with the above distinction.
