I tried to start WebObjects Application in Terminal and it succeeded. But I still can't start the same application's instance. I don't know why.

Interesting. Then I guess your settings in JavaMonitor are not correct or your setting properties for the instance that make it fail.

Running in Terminal has some troubles for example if you turned off it, the application will be shutdown.

I didn't suggest that you normally run your app from Terminal, but that you get the error messages from there.

Next thing: set the log path in JavaMonitor and see whether you get log output.

You can get the launch parameters from the instance config settings. On the page in Monitor where you see the instances, click on "config" and copy the launch parameters from the colored box. Also start the application as the user your application normally gets started (appserver?). "sudo -u appserver ..." might help you here.

Before you do, check the permissions of the application package whether they are appropriate.
