Although I tend to agree with Paul's analysis on the whole, I would point out one small error...

Actually, the class hierarchy surrounding these classes is:

java.lang.Object
     com.webobjects.appserver.WOElement
         com.webobjects.appserver.WOComponent
         com.webobjects.appserver.WODynamicElement

I don't this this renders Paul's arguments invalid.
