Sure, the latter is true.

However, this surely can't mean Apple will be shipping a proprietary product / libraries as a part of their development platform without supporting tools (well, not more than a Java compiler within their IDE)?

I'm thinking they have to include / improve EOModel development within Xcode (or merge it with CoreData in some way!) and replace WebObjects Builder with (a modified version) one of their other WYSIWYG Web development tools (the new DashCode thingy?).  

As for D2* I am not sure what they plan for those (from deprecation to better support).
