hi

I've been lurking the list for a few months and occasionally spending
a half day or so playing with webware on my personal LAN. Now I've
got something that I want to put together and webware seems to be a
suitable choice, but there's a problem...

My hosting provider (http://www.dreamhost.com) does support Python
(albeit at 1.52 for now) and is run by some nice kids in Calif. who
are fairly accommodating, but get leery about things that aren't
available as a debian package install. The problem is that, from what
I make of it, webware pretty much requires that you have root access
to the server in order to get everything running with Apache and I
don't have that with my host right now and can't assume that I will.

I am basically trying to put together a web application for a
particular industry and, if I can get a couple of backers interested,
will have the funds to work with a co-located server at which point I
can do whatever I want, but pending that event I am facing some
constraints. It's bad enough that I have to use MySQL instead of
PostgreSQL for now because of the hosting situation, but if I can't
use webware, then I'll probably have to use JServ servlets (which
dreamhost does support) for this and, at some point, it becomes too
much trouble to go back to python (which I would much prefer) if it
ever goes into production.

So is use of webware pretty much limited to situations where you have
control over the server for installation/configuration purposes or am
I overlooking something about it?

Also, for purposes of my LAN and otherwise, does anyone know of any
problems running mod_webkit, mod_snake, mod_ssl, and tomcat on the
same Apache server?

Thanks.
