I've installed Matplotlib 0.71 (as well as 0.63.4 and 0.65.1) Numarray 1.1.1, freetype-2.1.9, and antigrain 2.2. They all compile fine, but then matplotlib is having difficulty. So far Matplotlib seems to be having trouble with compiling src/_backend_agg.cpp

What OS are you on? matplotlib has been easy on Linux and Windows for me. All it needs in Numeric or numaray, if you are generating images for a web app, rather than a GUI.
