I
think all this talk about Edifecs has clouded the discussion and I need
to clarify. I am not not suggesting that SNIP look at our
products and determine whether or not they think those are the best.
That would be completely inappropriate. Rather we should be looking
at the the model of Community Enablement we've been discussing to determine
when, where and whether that might be a best practice. Just as
we've seen in other areas, like Third Party Testing, if we find
that the model is a good one and one we think the industry should adopt, vendors
will develop solutions that vary in their approach to supporting the
model. Some already have. This brings greater
technology to the industry and gives the market more options from
which to choose.
This
topic goes well beyond testing though so the proper forum for this issue may not
be the Testing SWG list. I'll explore this with SNIP co-chairs and see in
which SWG it best fits.
Thanks,
Marcallee

Subject: RE: Trading Partner EnablementMarcallee, I totally agree with the mission of WEDI and the goals of SNIP. However, all too often as we try to dig into the merits and capabilities of one approach to a problem set versus another the discussion tends to get too polarized to be fruitful. I agree that examination and discussion of the challenge of easily, quickly, affordably connecting providers to payers is not over, but as I said, Edifec's community enablement is only one such model, and not necessarily best practice even if you do assert that it is. Other models will emerge - as they should - and ultimately the marketplace will decide what it wants.Rachel
