A teacher in El Salvador is facing a disciplinary hearing after
organising a 'terrorism pageant' by her 11-year-old pupils.
During the parade pupils used toy weapons to re-enact the
September 11 terror attacks on the US. One student dressed
as Osama bin Laden and another George W Bush. At the
end of the parade, the bin Laden figure faced a mock firing
squad. The education ministry is launching an investigation
into why teacher Bernarda Henriquez thought terrorism was
a suitable subject for a school role play. The ministry described
the event as a serious error of judgement. Carlos, the boy
who played the fugitive Saudi dissident, says he had been
chosen because he had "very dark curly hair". He says he
hoped he wouldn't get into trouble for his part in the parade.
He claims before the parade he didn't know who bin Laden
was, adding he missed all the coverage of the attacks
because his family's TV is broken.
A Chinese inmate at a Hong Kong jail has lost an appeal for
his sentence to be shortened because the prison meals are
not spicy enough. Law Kwok-hing says he is finding it difficult
to adjust to the 'bland' food and also misses his family. The
32-year-old has served four months of a 20-month sentence.
The Court of First Instance rejected his appeal. Law, a garment
worker from China's Hunan province, was convicted of stealing
a leather bag. He is being held at the Pak Sha Wan Prison. He
told court: "I am a native of Hunan and I like spicy food, but there
is no spicy food here..."
A couple acting out a sexual fantasy sparked a police alert
in Denmark. A witness saw a blindfolded woman being
dragged into a forest by a man and called the police. Six
police patrol cars and a motorcycle were sent out. When
officers arrived they found the woman was involved in a
sex game with her partner. The officers found the couple
enjoying themselves behind some bushes, although they
were clothed when police arrived. The couple explained
their sex game involved pretending the woman was
surprised by the man in the forest.
