Two men have been arrested in South Africa after
allegedly selling testicles and a tongue to undercover
police. Some in the country believe body parts can
be used to cure illnesses. The two men were from
the Gale Street mortuary in KwaZulu-Natal. Dr Zweli
Mkhize, KwaZulu-Natal health minister, told the Daily
News: "The perception that body parts can be used
in multi to cure people's ailments is ridiculous. It is
illegal and society is being greatly misled if they
believe body parts can cure them." Police believe
the trade in body parts is rife and has been going
on for years.
Police in Peru captured two thieves who fell asleep
in their getaway car while waiting for an accomplice.
The two men had earlier carried out a burglary in Lima.
They pulled over to wait for their partner after losing a
pursuing police car. The accomplice never turned up
and the two men both fell asleep. A passing police
car noticed the vehicle and officers surrounded the
vehicle, waking the thieves. The men's attempt to
escape for a second time was foiled when their
getaway car refused to start.
Men who go to a lap-dancing club are being named
and shamed on a website. Customers going into
Newcastle's For Your Eyes Only bar are photographed
by women's groups opposed to the club. They hope
to get men in trouble with partners and wives but the
club says it welcomes the 'free publicity' and its
customers are not ashamed. Northumbria police
say no-one has complained about the site yet. The
website aims to deter men in case they are spotted
by wives, girlfriends or work colleagues.
A new island in the shape of a giant palm tree is to
be created off Dubai. The tourist attraction will include
luxury hotels, shopping centres, marinas and the
region's first marine park. The dredging company
awarded the contract to build the island say it will
be visible from space. The island consists of 17
palm fronds surrounded by a crescent shaped
protective barrier reef. The trunk of the palm tree
will be two-and-a-half miles long and the diameter
of the palm fronds will be another two-and-a-half
miles. The Palm Island project will add nearly 40
miles of shoreline to Dubai. The palm tree will be
so large it can be seen from the moon.
