A Swiss study claims 11 out of 29 European brands of
mineral water contain traces of human faeces. Researchers
believe traces of a virus found shows excrement sporadically
contaminates the water at source or during bottling procedures.
The team at the Cantonal Food Laboratory in Solothurn found
signs of the Norwalk-like virus, which causes more than 90%
of the world's stomach upsets.
The decomposed bodies of six dead babies have been found
in a vacant apartment near Tokyo. Police have launched a full
scale investigation. Housekeepers sent from the apartment's
management company found the babies in a cupboard.
A German who fired a gun to salute the Queen Mother after
watching TV coverage of her lying in state is in trouble with
police. After seeing cannons fired in her honour he was
inspired to get out his own ancient muzzle-loader pistol, for
which he did not have the required licence. He fired it on the
balcony of his flat in Sonthofen, southern Germany and
neighbours who heard the blast called police.
An unexploded bomb has stopped an Edinburgh football
team from securing their first win in two years. Edinburgh
Asians were winning 2-0 with 20 minutes left when the
referee was forced to abandon the match. Bomb disposal
experts were called out to detonate an 18lb Second World
War shell when a nearby resident found it under the floorboards
of his garden shed.
