An Australian performance artist has successfully spent
more than a day nailed to a wall by his only arm. Mike Parr,
who was born with one arm, could be seen via a webcam
at Sydney's Artspace gallery. He took advice from doctors
before a builder drove a long silver nail into his forearm
then hammered it into a wall. Video footage of the
performance will now be projected on to the wall.
A ladies' knitting circle has been receiving obscene emails
from fans of the band Slipknot. The quarterly journal of the
Knitting and Crochet Guild of Great Britain has the same
name as the US nu-metal band. A spokesman for the
knitting circle say they do not want to be associated with
the band after receiving "very unpleasant" emails. The
guild's website aims to promote the craft and keep
enthusiasts in touch with each other across the globe.
But guild members have been disgusted by the emails
sent to their website. They believe the music fans have
arrived at the site after entering the name Slipknot in
internet search engines.
The family of an Australian First World War veteran have
handed over the head of a Turkish soldier he had kept
for 87 years. The Gallipoli veteran's grandson found the
mummified head in a velvet-lined pine box. He knew
about the souvenir but called police in Echuca, Victoria
after seeing it because he was so shocked. The skull
has a bullet hole and its teeth protrude, but the eyes and
nose are missing. It has been handed over to the country's
Turkish community whose members will decide what to
do with it.
