A prison guard in Brazil went to a bar close to his
jail and bumped into three inmates who had sneaked
out for a drink. The owner told him they were regulars
who often popped in for a beer, reports Terra Noticias
Populares. Leornardo Tagliate Junior said: "I told them
they were arrested again and they didn't react. They
even told me they were not running away they were only
having a beer." The prisoners were returned to Ceresp
prison in Betim where an investigation has been launched
into security.
Staff at a rubbish dump in Berlin have discovered a
man who has been living there for 10 years. The man
was 41 when he dug out his hideaway. It was 3ft high
and contained a mattress, shelves and a cupboard, the
Berliner Zeitung newspaper reports. Harald reportedly
spent most of the day sleeping, then set out at night
to search the dump for food, which he warmed over
candles. It's thought he got water from a tank that fed
the staff showers Lutz Paetzold, who is in charge of
the site, told the paper: "In all these years, we never
noticed him." Harald was only found because he set
off some fireworks to attract attention to himself.
A Catholic priest in New Mexico is being sued by
the family of a dead man he said would be going
straight to Hell. Relatives of Ben Martinez claim that,
during his funeral, the Rev Scott Mansfield said: "The
Lord vomited people like Ben out of his mouth to Hell."
According to the lawsuit, the priest was angry at
Martinez for not attending church during the last year
of his life. The suit, filed by his widow, three sons, a
daughter and their spouses, claims they were devastated
and humiliated by the priest's statements. It also
claims his comments at the funeral in Chama caused
relatives of Martinez to have nightmares, depression,
anxiety attacks and need therapy.
