Joel, Thanks for that professional work done with regard to this project for the benefit of the community. Since you have stated that you did'nt find a live embryo and the cotyledon(i last heard this when i was in P.4!!n haha) was depleted thereby causing the loss of viability, what would be your advise on the way forward - you are the professional in this field. Should the sender of the mapple seeds find a quicker way of sending them before loss of viability etc?? May be the seeds would have germinated if there was no loss of the embyro...no loss of the food for the embryo(cotyledon) as a result of the time it takes(the lesser the time, the better) from when the seeds are picked from the mapple tree to when it reaches the professional hands of the person of Joel. What is your advise on the way forward?

I did viability test of the seeds and in all seeds I tried to split I didnt find a live embryo and the cotyledon (serving as food source for the embryo) was very soft, meaning it was depleted. However I went ahead and planted the seeds and unfortunately none of them germinated. This means that the seeds had lost viability by the time they were received. Depending on the physiology of the tree, some seeds retain viability for long while others lose it within a very short time. So there is need to know more about this tree so as to determine the way foward. Best regards, Joel ________________________________ Windows Live: Friends get your Flickr, Yelp, and Digg updates when they e-mail you.
