Is is very unfortunate indeed that i get a personal email from him insinuating that i benefit from the proceeds of prostitution! Well Diliga if men like you kept your pants in check then we would not have this vice as economists put it where there is demand there is supply! so deal with the demand aspect and only then can u effectively tackle the supply side AND THAT IS MY SUGGESTION N.B i joined this network to gain experience and contribute to our community and not get insulted for sharing my opinion. If this is not the case then i guess we are all in the wrong place. have a good day! These problems can only be solved by community involvement in addressing the problems. Large cities around the world have social action groups(community organizations) who adress these problems/challenges. Should we leave these problems in the hands of local administrators in the region alone? Should we get involved in one way or another? My Gues is that a doctor starts treating root causes of the disease and not just symtoms of the problems: Some of these problems are the result of: a) Girls who refuse to go to schools b) High school drop ratios among the girls c) High unemployment in the region d) High ratio of poverty amongst the youth The question is where do begin to adress the problems? But unfortunately that is not the case. It is true Arua is doing badly as far as the morals are concerned. One strange thing is that the people you are calling upon to solve the issue may be some of the consumers! That makes it tricky and complex. I would suggest that it should be beyond the councilors. Let it be a PEOPLE oriented move. That will have more impact according to me. \ Thanks... ________________________________ From: Diliga Richard <dilig...@gmail.com> To: A Virtual Network for friends of West Nile <westnilenet@kym.net> Sent: Monday, August 29, 2011 11:00 AM Subject: [WestNileNet] Prostitution in Arua Town Dear colleagues last week i went to Arua and found that the Arua i knew in 19990s is not the Arua of these days coz a friend invited me for a dance in Matonge disco theque and as i was driving around former Greed disco club i found a line of girls and when i asked who those ones were only to be told that those are Nyama Chomas in Arua. I am?surprised?that people who leave here and eat and even sometimes go for the ladies can not see the problem and wait for our colleagues outside to come and site such problems. What appropriate alternatives are there for such vulnerable groups who only have that the option of doing the odd busines to support themselves and homes, including children abundoned by farthers/ophans, is something to think about. It takes us back to how the economic conditions of our people can be enhanced through other supports like businesses, self and formal employment. This could even be the same reason why the number of street children begging at traffic points in Kampala has not reduced much. Thanks Onzoma A.
