Sad to hear about the loss of Africa's "Prince".
Rest In Peace Papa Wemba, "le kuru yaka".
His music came from the days of Africa's independence, known in Congo as
"Tango ya bawendo", and transformed with modern times. Taking many Africans
young and old, including myself, along his incredible music journey.
It is a miracle that he has been alive, strong and healthy to this day when
all the big names he started with in Congo have long left us: Franco,
Rochereau, Sam Mangwana, and many more. So many young musicians have also
been groomed by Wemba through the years.
An artist reknown across the continent for his talent and vast creative
experience that took him around the globe. Collaborating and performing
alongside the continents best. Always well dressed and in tune with the
latest fashions from Africa, US, and Paris, to Asia and Japan.
He also put his music to service when a humanitarian cause needed attention.
Papa Wemba's youthfulness remained vibrant and retirement never crossed our
minds as an option. That is why there couldn't have been a different end
than on a concert stage while doing what he did best. Singing and dancing
the congolese rumba.
Rest In Peace African music icon.
