Have a look at the map's/item's dependencies. Items will show down (red) if an item it depends on is down.

I have increased the Timeout on the links to 20 (max. timeout) but it hasn't helped at all. This has started happening since we installed Whatsup Gold on a W2K machine - it used to run on W98 and we didn't have any of these problems.
