Have a look at the map's/item's dependencies. Items will show down (red)
if an item it depends on is down.

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] False alerts/down symbols

Hi,

I'm running Whatsup Gold 7.03 on Windows 2000 Professional.

I monitor ADSL routers and VPN links to lots of sites. The problem I'm
having is that the links often show that they're down (ie red) but I can
ping them.

It makes little sense because for example the ADSL link can show that
it's down, but the machines behind it show that they're up. When I
right-click and ping the ADSL links it is successful.

I have increased the Timeout on the links to 20 (max. timeout) but it
hasn't helped at all.

This has started happening since we installed Whatsup Gold on a W2K
machine - it used to run on W98 and we didn't have any of these
problems.

Thanks,

Hazel
