Definitely. iCab allows that through the contextual menu ("Link->Open
in This Window"). It might be faster if it can also be done with
modifier keys.

In Safari, as in Firefox, you can already ensure a link opens in the
same window by dragging it and dropping it on the address field. So
there are multiple reasonable ways for a UA to implement it, just as
there are multiple reasonable ways for a UA to indicate whether a link
is specified to open in a new window in the first place. So it is fair
for HTML5 to encourage those things, but beyond that, this discussion
may be getting a bit off-topic.
