Here are my preferences, but whatever you decide, I'm behind you.

Personally, I prefer the idea of smaller steps...

Regardless of the numbering, I would prefer to see successive releases,
rather than having two major changes in the same release.

I support the idea of renewing the api, even if it does cause breakage.
That's the price to pay for having a lean, clean framework.


However, moving to Java1.5 is another story. It's not just a matter of
some refactoring of the code that uses Wicket, but has much larger
implications.

Being forced to update to 1.5 affects other projects and is not
necessarily trivial, albeit necessary.


Please consider doing these steps separately.

I do.

But I think the proposal of releasing the constructor change first and
keeping that release as a "legacy" release (including bug fixes) for use
with Java1.4 is an excellent proposal.

That is by far my choice!

Personally, I'm not really keen on having to introduce something like
that into my code. I'd much rather having a Wicket 1.3 that doesn't
include all the latest and greatest features, but does the job.
