I put a note/ warning in AbstractPropertyModel and PropertyModel. If you think the warning should be more prominent (imho, it's fine like this) you're welcome to provide a patch. Also, you or anyone else feeling strongly about this topic could write up a WIKI item on it. By the time we start on 1.4, we can re-evaluate how we think about this, and whether we should support a different flavor. Please feel free to open a JIRA issue for this, fix version 1.4 and pointing to this thread.
