There are a few places to look for research related to Wikidata. First there are the Wikidata Workshops, https://wikidataworkshop.github.io/, where everything is about Wikidata. There are also the International Semantic Web Conferences and European Semantic Web Conferences, run by SWSA, https://swsa.semanticweb.org/, that have significant content related to Wikidata and maybe even some content related to other Wikimedia projects. The general AI conferences - IJCAI, https://www.ijcai.org/, and AAAI, https://aaai.org/, should have some relevant content as well. Most of the work at these venues will be sponsored by the EU or national governments.

I would find it useful to have the country (or group of countries) available for all the funders. It is relatively obvious that national science foundation is the US NSF, but it should not be necessary to make this inference. It is harder to determine the country for ministry of education.

Also, some of the funders appear to be programs, not agencies.

The other weird thing about the funders is that it appears to not count companies. In general, it can be difficult to determine the funder of some research, as this is often only found in an acknowledgment section. But my understanding is that much of the research performed by Google authors is funded by Google. I looked for the companies that I worked for and didn't find any of them either.

Hello,

Thank you both for your comments and this is exactly why we send it around. I changed the sentence to make it better. The language was really not the main thing we wanted to look at, only we had it and so did just very very basic analysis with it.

I would be glad to see results from a different database focused more on international audiences, are there particular ones you think we might look at next?

*If you want to see the full list of funders, and also the keywords that they are funding, you can see that here <https://osf.io/6e9as/files/ca3sz>.* from there you can search in the main dataset and find the specific papers, read abstracts, or see who did them or at what institutions.

Best,
Brett

    Hello:
About "English is the dominant language of research publication"

Outside English speaking countries, especially in Spanish-speaking
countries, this is identified as major problem, not just a simple fact.

English is the dominant language because everyone consults and cite paper
in English due to the language barrier. But there are many index, papers
and documents in Spanish and other languages as important as the English
papers that are not in the English index because English speaking
researchers don´t understand them, so they don´t consult and cite them.

I don´t know the authors of the paper, but to my mind that conclusion is
very important. Maybe the most important.

    Greetings

I took a look at the paper and I feel the need to comment on one
"conclusion"
    in it.

"Of the 8,739 papers published, 7,640 (87.4%) of them were published in
English. Spanish is the second most common language, with 244 papers in
Spanish. This is a huge difference and again suggests that Wikimedia is
    primarily anglophone."

I don't think that this should be said, even if the next paragraph
somewhat tempers the reasoning.  Like it or not, English is the dominant
language of research publication.  International conferences are nearly
all English.  Even many theses from non-English-speaking countries are
written in English.  So it is completely unsurprising that most papers
examined are in English.  It would be astonishing if this was not the case.
