Nope, I know it's not hard coded. What I was talking about is the justification for including it. As Matt correctly points out in comment 17, this is partially about managing expectations. If you look at it from that point of view, you could say that people expect "remember me" to work for an indefinite period, since that's how it works most other places if you choose that option.
