Are there any older app versions out there which might use a different method to get the data? Does Android use MCS?
Android uses MCS by default. There are a few exceptions but those wouldn't account for a big number like that. Where the numbers are coming from is that the Android app still uses pageterms to get the descriptions in other areas of the app: Read more, search results, nearby results, reading list. And then there's also the iOS app, which does the same plus also uses it for the description on top of each page.
