GWicke added a comment. @ottomata: If you fill in the defaults at consumption time, then you have a choice of how you want to treat old events. You can either fill in the defaults from the latest schema (probably what you want in most cases), or choose to explicitly distinguish fields that were not yet defined at the time the event was produced.
