Yes, this is supposed to happen, using the Wikibase JavaScript library, and it's automatic and transparent to the user. Usually it works, but occasionally it does not and I'm not sure why and when. Examples would be useful. In which articles did it happen? (FWIW, @Ladsgroup sometimes runs a bot that connects articles that weren't properly auto-connected by ContentTranslation, but I don't know how regularly.)
