It does not really make a difference whether you release a million
images without metadata to Flickr, or to Commons. It comes without any
metadata, so it cannot be searched (and images cannot be found) in
either case. :(

As Andrew said, the interesting question is whether the Commons community can effectively help curate/add metadata for this unidentified content.

I agree with Andy (see http://www.generalist.org.uk/blog/2013/mechanical-curator-on-commons/#comment-209343) that tools for easier curation will be quite helpful.
