Hi, I've been on a mountaneering expedition myself (Nandad Devi 7817m), 1993 and love mountains (see https://thebutterflydiaries.wordpress.com/2009/03/11/sarson-patal/).
I agree that we need good images to cover mountains in India. However, I cannot see how funding an expedition can be justified from WMF funds. Costs related to photography could perhaps be justified but not a complete expedition costing Rs 4.6 lakh rupees or so! It may be cheaper to pay photographers to surrender copyrights. Imho images of mountains, passes & biodiversity while required are not so vital as to necessitate such expenditure. We need instead to interact with mountaineers & ask them to donate specific images of encyclopedic value needed for articles. I'd love to see any links to discussions where the community has been informed about Wikipedia Treks Mountains as such. Till now, I have never heard of it.
